When you know your date, month, year, time and place of birth you can construct an Ascendant Chart where the 1st house is referred to as your rising sign. Here’s a brief description:
Ascendant in Aries: You have a powerful sense of individuality and will fear becoming one of the crowds tending to forge your own personal path through life. Success will be measured according to how true you remain to your own ideals. Being naturally impatient, you’re quick to anger and tend to be outspoken regardless of possible consequences. This unapologetic and fearless characteristic ensures there’ll be many occasions when you’ll be accused of being nothing but a downright troublemaker!
Ascendant in Taurus: Being single-minded allows you to keep your eye on your goal. You’ll stand your ground until your determination brings you the desired result, setting the example by your actions. Financially, you maintain an eye on the future, rather than live for the moment. Too often you’ve seen your friends fall by the wayside and this has confirmed your view that money is for saving rather than for spending. Money, in fact, is a major preoccupation for Taurus Ascendants and much of your time is spent perfecting a strategy that will ensure that you’ll never go wanting.
Ascendant in Gemini: It’s an essential aspect of your nature to feel 'twinned'. However, you have a tendency to act hastily, and this means that you often choose your 'twins' unwisely, out of the sheer necessity of having one, interestingly; there’ll always be a ‘replacement’ if everything goes ‘pear-shaped.’ Your quick, mercurial intellect, and your endless supply of one-liners, makes you the proverbial 'smart-alec', forever ready with an answer for everything. This can be endearing, or get you into a lot of trouble. You’re a social juggler and often seen flitting from one scene to another in an endless round of chitchat and banter.
Ascendant in Cancer: You’ll have good intuition and a good appreciation of moral values, but you sometimes have trouble in putting yourself forward or convincing others of your point of view, despite how much you believe yourself to be right. You can ‘feel’ the mood of the world around you, sometimes too much for your own good! This is because of intuition's empathic quality: its capacity for identifying with another person or thing and going through their experiences as if they were your own. When reflective try to be constructive and not destructive with your memories for too much analysis leads to ‘paralysis.’
Ascendant in Leo: You’ll have a confidence in your approach to life hence you have the potential for sweeping along all kinds of people in your enthusiasm, for others generally respond to the flag that flies the highest. You have an enormous sense of fun, one that you take very seriously. In other words, the 'fun' side of your character continuously needs to be catered otherwise you’ll feel as if you’re wasting away. A party animal or gatherings in general you know how to ‘work the room.’ Your style is uncomplicated and direct respecting others who also tell it how it is rather than those with hidden agendas.
Ascendant in Virgo: Your professional life is very important to you for it provides you with the routine and reliability you consider essential. It's not that you actually like work it's just that you need to feel that there’s a system and structure to your everyday life. If you have this, then you feel you have meaning. Doing the same thing at the same time everyday becomes therefore not a chore, but a necessary evil. You can be a notorious hypochondriac, when you have a cold; it soon becomes flu, and then quickly escalates into all kinds of respiration and bronchial complications - and all this in the space of five minutes! Your cupboards are likely to be full of this medicine and that all saving for a rainy day. Similarly, your preoccupation with health and bodily matters makes you take the whole business of nutrition very seriously. Sometimes you allow others to intimidate you unnecessarily or, just let them take advantage. This, understandably secretly infuriates you…
Ascendant in Libra: You're very active on the social scene and want to be a part of it all. Being a naturally gregarious person, and one who loves company, you like to have the support of a partner. Being in a relationship is good for you as it allows you to find your reflection. Self-image is high on your list of priorities for it matters to you how others see and judge you. Therefore, you'll cultivate your image in order to fit the one you wish to project, controlling as best you can how you appear to the world at large.
Ascendant in Scorpio: You’ll have a good sense of your own individuality and like to be noticed. Nevertheless, you also have an equal need at times to be retiring, and to withdraw into the safety of your own self-protection. Having a tendency to being possessive, you can over-identify on occasion with various people or things. So let go of the leash once in a while: it'll pay dividends for all concerned. You can be reasonable, adopting a rational and fair-minded approach to whatever issues at hand. At other times you can be quite the reverse, and become heavily emotional, irrational. This is not schizophrenia it’s just that you have two levels to your personality, which interchange according to the intensity with which you react to any situation. A milder reaction on your part brings with it a more level-headed approach; but once you become emotionally involved, it is your instinct, which determines your reactions…
Ascendant in Sagittarius: Others find you fascinating company for you’ll have a way of saying things, which is not exactly tactless, but not exactly discreet, either yet, you don’t play them for laughs it’s just you expressing yourself as you are. If you ever get the feeling that others are laughing at, and not with, you, then those people had better looked out, for there's no-one more sensitive to scorn than you! Your loyalty can never be questioned and once your heart has fastened onto someone or something then that's where it stays, no matter what. Loyalty means being faithful in thought as much as in action yet, many Sag Ascendants are always on the lookout for greener pastures.
Ascendant in Capricorn: You’ll be enterprising, and always out there where the action is for you go out and get things, rather than waiting for them come to you. The beauty of this is that you seem to have that uncanny knack of actually knowing how to go about materialising all your objectives, no matter what the goals are or what the projects may entail. There’ll be a tendency to stand on formality, or to fall in with convention in order to camouflage your own individuality. Your aim in life is to get along with your own business as efficiently and effectively as possible. The spotlight is not something you go out of your way to attract nevertheless you should actively seek it if it provides a means for bringing your goals that much closer. A lot of politicians have Capricorn on the Ascendant
Ascendant in Aquarius: You’ll have a broad view of life and a broad appreciation of people to go with it and your social circle reflects this but you still form your own opinions! You relate to people and situations pretty much on a mental level, always using your intellect as the judge, not your instinct or feeling. Indeed, you can be incredibly rational or is that irrational? Learn the value of having one true companion, one true friend and not a conglomeration or hotchpotch of individuals, who never agree on anything. Once you’ve found your like-minded companion, don’t lose them.
Ascendant in Pisces: You’ll have an open personality, and readily accept those influences that others might look upon as foreign, or strange. Your openness, however, is frequently only a disguise, not necessarily a reflection of how you feel deep down inside. But a disguise and an effective one at that for your also a bit of a chameleon and change according to your surroundings. You’ll learn and adapt as you go along, weighing up mistakes and turning them to your best advantage.
